ASRT – A Modern, Innovative, and Dynamic Professional Forum for Sexologists, RelationshipTherapists, and Specialists in the World – and Beyond 😉

ASRT is a contemporary, forward-thinking professional forum open to certified and practicing therapists as well as students from various sexology and relationship therapy schools with thorough training and final examinations.

Many sexologists and relationship therapists are members of several professional associations – and that is perfectly acceptable. What matters most is to belong to a forum or association that aligns with your values, ethics, and professional identity – and one that actively supports the fields of sexology, relationship therapy, and specialist disciplines.

Educational institutions, such as Sexologiskolen, finalize their programs with examinations and certification. Graduates receive exam diplomas that include descriptions of key topics, teaching staff, number of hours, assignments, etc., to validate their education and exam results. In addition, certified Sexologists, Relationship Therapists, and Specialists receive further recognition and accreditation through ASRT. All members sign the ASRT FRAMES – ETHICS AND GUIDELINES, which provides an added professional and ethical dimension to the modern, practicing therapist.

It is possible to become an ASRT member as soon as you begin your core education. Once you have completed the required 10 hours of personal therapy & supervision, you are also eligible to participate in the professional supervision groups alongside certified therapists.

Annual membership fee: EUR 68, approximately DKK 50o.
For Nnorwegian members, we also recommend membership in the two Nordic Associations: NSPF.

At ASRT, we are dedicated to creating strong and meaningful frameworks for our members, while also upholding professional standards. We believe in transparency and collaboration. The ASRT FRAMEWORK – ETHICS AND GUIDELINES is publicly available, so anyone can read and understand the ethical foundation and standards under which an ASRT therapist operates. This transparency benefits the profession and allows clients, partners, and colleagues to quickly access relevant information and gain a clear overview.

As an ASRT member, you have access to a wide range of insightful and relevant professional lectures, announced in the members-only ASRT Facebook group – also open to students. These lectures are tailored to provide essential knowledge for practicing professional sexologists and relationship therapists. Topics include clinical documentation, accounting and taxation, GDPR, marketing and PR on social media, and more. Attendance is offered at a reduced rate – or completely free of charge.

ASRT encourages members to begin supervision as soon as they gain access to the supervision groups and to continue with a frequency that matches their number of clients and other professional work, such as teaching, lecturing, or publishing.
You may join a supervision group led by a professionally trained supervisor once you have completed the mandatory 30 student client hours and 10 hours of supervision – this means you can begin already as a student.

  • If the annual fee changes, all members will be informed at least 2 months in advance, i.e., by October 1st.
  • Should you wish to cancel your membership, please notify us by email no later than 14 days before the due date of January 1st – i.e., no later than December 14th.
  • Since the membership fee is due annually on January 1st, we kindly recommend setting up a recurring bank transfer to avoid reminder fees. Late payment fee: DKK 150.

ASRT – Ethics, Guidelines, and Professional Standards

Membership Responsibilities

Members of ASRT, through their affiliation with the professional forum, are obligated to adhere to established ethical and professional guidelines in their work with clients, individuals, couples, parents, students, and guests. This includes full compliance with GDPR.

Framework of Sessions

These guidelines help define the framework for both client and therapist, ensuring that expectations for consultations, sessions, or agreements are clearly established in advance.

No Sexual Conduct

No sexual behavior or manifestations—physical or psychological—are associated with the consultations.

Purpose of Guidelines

These rules and guidelines are essential for maintaining high professional standards in sexological and relationship therapy, both in clinical settings and online.

Guiding Principles

The ASRT Guidelines are structured around the following principles: Rights, Integrity, Confidentiality, Dignity, Responsibility, Professionalism, Reflection, and Transparency.

Supervision & Continuing Education

ASRT strongly encourages ongoing professional supervision corresponding to the extent of client work and other professional responsibilities. Supervision serves as both a developmental tool and a safeguard for maintaining a high standard of professional practice in the fields of Sexology and Relationship Therapy. Group and individual supervision led by trained supervisors is announced regularly. Members also have access to ongoing advanced training, courses, and professional lectures.

Rights

Both client and therapist may at any time choose to end the professional relationship, within the framework and cancellation policies set by the therapist. Clients must be provided with sufficient information to give informed consent for their participation. The client(s) are always the focus of the process, and it is the therapist’s role to use their expertise to guide and assist the client(s).

Integrity

The therapist respects the client’s physical, emotional, and mental boundaries. Personal examples may be used when they serve the therapeutic process.

Confidentiality

All written and spoken information shared during sessions, including the existence of the client relationship, is confidential and stored according to GDPR. Therapists are advised to keep records. Data may only be shared with written consent from the client. Local or national laws may in some cases require disclosure, and clients should be informed of such regulations. Any research use of client data must ensure anonymity and informed consent.

Dignity

Therapists must show respect for the client’s individuality, values, and dignity, including age, gender identity, sexual orientation, cultural background, language, religion, education, and social status. If a therapist is unable to accept or accommodate aspects of a client’s identity, they are ethically obligated to refer the client to a suitable professional.

Responsibility

Therapists must recognize situations where professional boundaries may be compromised and avoid dual relationships. They are responsible for maintaining high-quality work and ensuring the relationship remains professional. No sexual relationship may occur. Therapists must seek supervision when needed and maintain ethical decision-making practices.

Professionalism

Therapists are responsible for staying current with professional knowledge and practice. They must prioritize client welfare and refer when needed. Therapists must only use titles they are officially certified for. Compliance with laws, including tax regulations, is required.

Reflection

Therapists must continuously reflect on their work, address ethical issues, and care for their own wellbeing to maintain professional standards.

Transparency

Therapists should clearly communicate their educational background, methods, and affiliations. Mutual understanding with the client is encouraged through openness and clarity.

Legal Compliance

Therapists confirm they have never been accused or convicted of abuse or any illegal acts related to sexuality.

Guest Memberships

ASRT now offers guest memberships to professionals working alongside sexology and relationship therapy (e.g., psychologists, priests, nurses, midwives). Guest members must follow the same ethical guidelines as regular members. They may participate in meetings and events but do not have voting rights and pay a student-level membership fee.

WHO CAN BE A MEMBER OF ASRT?

Eligibility for ASRT Membership

  • All certified and examined therapists, specialists, and master-level graduates from Sexologiskolen are eligible for full ASRT membership.
  • Students enrolled in the Sexologist or Relationship Therapist Education at Sexologiskolen may become members from the very beginning of their studies.
  • All ASRT members – including students – are welcome to attend ASRT’s professional lectures from the moment of registration.
  • Student members are also eligible to participate in ASRT Supervision Groups as soon as they have completed the required 10 Student Client Hours and 10 Supervision/Personal Therapy Hours.
  • Graduates and students from other national, Nordic, and international sexology and relationship therapy educations – including clinical programs – may also apply for ASRT membership. In some cases, supplemental personal therapy, supervision, or individual learning modules may be required to ensure alignment with the minimum standards of ASRT before final approval of membership.
  • ASRT offers guest memberships to professionals working in adjacent fields to sexology and relationship therapy, such as psychologists, psychotherapists, clergy, nurses, midwives, and others.
  • Guest members are expected to follow the same ethical and professional standards as regular members. They may participate in meetings, lectures, and courses on equal footing with regular members, but do not hold voting rights, for example regarding changes to the statutes.

Short and Long-Term Objectives of ASRT

  • To raise the ethical and professional standards for sexologists, relationship therapists, and specialists affiliated with ASRT, ensuring quality and integrity across the field.

  • To offer relevant and inspiring lectures, seminars, and continuing education for ASRT members to support lifelong learning and professional growth.

  • To provide access to high-quality supervision, legal advisors, and financial consultants with expertise in the field – helping therapists navigate professional requirements.

  • To support a strong national, Nordic, and international network of collaboration between schools, therapists, and associations in sexology and relationship therapy.

  • To promote visibility and credibility for members in relation to the public, the media, businesses, and other professional stakeholders.

  • To enable ASRT members to publish chronicles and articles for the benefit of the general public, professionals in related fields, and the press.

  • To work toward legal frameworks that may exempt ASRT therapists from VAT (value-added tax), recognizing the therapeutic and educational nature of their services.

ASRT – BOARD

ASRT has an Advisory Board composed of members from Denmark, Scandinavia – and across the world! The Chair of the Board is Sexologist & Relationship Therapist YazminAnaïs Katarina Fox Eisen, who oversees daily decisions and has the opportunity to discuss various topics, ideas, and questions with the Board.
Board members serve for one year at a time, with the possibility of renewal.
